Pastor - Michael Bailey

Michael came to serve as Pastor of First Presbyterian in September of 2005.  He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia where he along with his parents and two older brothers were active members of the Peachtree Presbyterian Church.  A wonderful foundation for faith was established for Michael through his family and church family.  Michael attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina and graduated with a B.A. in History.  At Furman he met and fell in love with his now wife, Laura, as they together served as youth advisors at First Presbyterian, Greenville.  One month after graduating from college in 1996, Michael began studying at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.  In 1998, Laura and Michael were married, spending their first year of marriage in Columbia, South Carolina where he served as Seminary Intern at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.  After Graduating from Columbia Seminary in 2000, Michael was called to serve as Associate Pastor of the First (Scots) Presbyterian Church in Charleston South Carolina.  There Michael spent much time ministering to children, youth, and young adults, but was also blessed to have many varied and useful experiences in all areas of the church which have benefited him tremendously.  In 2005, the Bailey family sensed God’s call and left Charleston for Morganton finding in the process much love and support from old and new friends and a abiding sense of God’s peace and love. The Baileys have two sons and a daughter, Hudson, Charlie, and Katherine Mae who daily make life an adventurous learning experience and an overwhelmingly joyful experience!
